SUMMARY:Screening of internationally acclaimed film\, "Encounter Point"
DESCRIPTION:Tennessee Alliance for Progress' DOING JUSTLY project invites you to a screening of the award-winning film\, Encounter Point\, on Monday\, April 28\, 2008\, 6\:15 - 8\:30 p.m. at the University School of Nashville\, 2000 Edgehill Avenue\, Nashville\, TN 37212\n\n Encounter Point is a film about grassroots peace activism in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories -- &quot\;a true story about the everyday leaders who refuse to sit back as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalates.&quot\;\n\n Reverberations from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are felt worldwide. It is perhaps the most divisive\, polarizing and documented political issue of our time. Encounter Point moves beyond sensational\, dogmatic and canned images to tell the story of an Israeli settler\, a convicted Palestinian fighter\, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian ex-prisoner who sacrifice their safety\, public standing\, communities and homes in order to press for a grassroots movement for nonviolence and peace. Their journeys lead them to the unlikeliest places to stem hatred among their peoples and confront fear within themselves. Encounter Point explores what drives these and thousands of other like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for peace. Without dogma or righteousness\, it implicitly asks why\, with the world's cameras focused on this conflict\, we have never heard about these courageous and vital efforts?\n\n Doing Justly presents this film to honor the growing movement for peace in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. A panel discussion will follow the film. Panelists include\: Khalid Sakalla from Gaza (a board member of the Islamic Center of Nashville)\, Rabbi Laurie Rice from Congregation Micah\, and Raffi Friedman\, graduating senior at USN and former participant in Seeds of Peace camp.\n\n Suggested donation\: $7 for adults / $5 for students\n\n This event is co-sponsored by\: the University School of Nashville\, Islamic Center of Nashville\, Congregation Micah\, Temple Ohabai Shalom Social Action Committee\, Vanderbilt University Office of Leadership Development and Intercultural Affairs\, and the Nashville Jewish Film Festival.\n\n Please call 615-478-1106 for more information
