Matisse Exhibit Lecture by Professor Leonard Folgarait

Exhibition location: The Legion of Honor Museum, Lincoln Park, 100 34th Avenue (at Clement Street), San Francisco, CA 94121
The Legion of Honor Museum is hosting an extraordinary exhibit on loan from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art comprising paintings, drawings and bronzes from their internationally acclaimed collection of the work of Henri Matisse. The exhibition traces four decades of Matisse's career, from the turn of the century to the 1930s.
Professor Folgarait will deliver a lecture to put the exhibit and the artist into context. After his presentation, we'll transition on our own to the nearby museum to view the works using the knowledge and insight we have gained.
Cost: $30 per person

Professor Folgarait has taught at Vanderbilt since 1981. His areas of teaching and research are the modern art of Latin America, with a specialization in the twentieth-century art of Mexico; and modern European and American art and architecture. Special interests are: the relationship of art to politics, early cubism, surrealism, performance art, film, photography, and historiography.
