Vanderbilt Visiting Writers Series: Justin Torres Reading

Justin Torres is the author of We the Animals, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for outstanding literary work by a debut author, was a finalist for a Publishing Triangle Award, won an Adult Debut Honor Award in the Indies Choice Book Awards, and has been translated into a dozen languages. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a recent Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford, he was a 2012-13 fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard.
Torres has also received the Rolón Fellowship in Literature from United States Artists, and the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's, Granta, Tin House, and Glimmer Train. Among many other things, he has worked as a farmhand, a dog walker, a creative writing teacher, and a bookseller. He is on the creative writing faculty at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York.
