The Vanderbilt Choral Department presents a centenary tribute to one of the 20th century’s most significant composers, Benjamin Britten. This concert event will take place at West End United Methodist Church, a wonderful English Gothic cathedral which boasts the largest pipe organ in Tennessee, a 136-rank Moller that will be played by Polly Brecht. This concert will feature performances of Britten’s best-known choral works, including Rejoice in the Lamb, A Ceremony of Carols (sung by the Blair Children’s Chorus), and Hymn to St. Cecilia. The combined choirs will also perform majestic works by Britten’s great predecessor, Georg Frederic Handel; and arguably his most immediate successor, John Rutter.
