The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl Creator Issa Rae on the NEW New Girl, 2013 Cuninggim Lecture on Women in Culture & Society

Issa Rae will give a talk, "The NEW New Girl: Challenging Mainstream Media's Portrayal of Women," as the 2013 Cuninggim Lecture on Women in Culture and Society. As a producer/director/writer whose work has appeared on CNN, NBC, BET.com, Vibe, Huffington Post, Essence Magazine and more, Issa Rae will discuss how mainstream media has informed and shaped her identity and encourage the audience to challenge their own views on what's real and authentic.

Issa Rae received her BA from Stanford University, where she produced and directed four theatrical productions, including two stage play adaptations of Spike Lee films. She also attended the New York Film Academy and has worked on various music videos and shorts. "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl," often referred to as ABG, is Issa Rae's third and most popular web series. Rae is signed with UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment. She has two other web series, which include, "Dorm Diaries" and her award-winning series, "FLY GUYS present the F Word."
