Amanda Boetzkes is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History and Theory at the University of Guelph. Her research focuses on the intersection of the biological sciences with artistic practices of the late 20th
and early 21st centuries. Her book, The Ethics of Earth Art (University of Minnesota Press, 2010) considers the development of the earth art movement, focusing on how the scientific discourse of ecology has been elaborated as a domain of ethical and aesthetic concern. She is currently writing a book entitled, Contemporary Art and the Drive to Waste, which analyzes the use and representation of garbage in contemporary art, and more subtly, how waste as such is defined, narrativized and aestheticized in the age of global capitalism.
