Hosted by: VUMC Social Work Department and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital's Social Work Department
“Mindfulness, Ethics, & Self Care in Social Work Practice”
The morning sessions of the workshop will focus on mindfulness and self care as a professional caregiver. The afternoon sessions will focus on the ethical responsibilities and considerations of self care as a professional.
Speakers:
C. Gordon Peerman, D.Min
Dr. Peerman is a psychotherapist and consultant in the Nashville area. He is an adjunct professor in the Divinity School at Vanderbilt. He has taught many classes on Mindfulness for the Divinity School, Vanderbilt Integrative Health Services, and to Vanderbilt medical and law students. Dr. Peerman worked several years with St. Thomas Health Services as the President of Service Excellence and Vice President for Change Management. Dr. Peerman has also authored four publications in journals including Radical Grace, The Lutheran, and Alive Now.
Walter M. Robinson, MD, MPH
Dr. Robinson is on staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the departments of Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society and the Division of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, & Pulmonary Medicine. He received his medical degree at Emory University and also holds a masters in Public Health (Health Policy) from Harvard School of Public Health. He currently serves on the editorial board for the publication “Ethics & Behavior”. Dr. Robinson has a distinguished history of teaching, research, clinical practice, and publication at Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Vanderbilt Medical School.
