9/4/2009, All Day

All Vanderbilt fans are encouraged to show their team spirit by wearing black and gold on College Colors Day, Friday, Sept. 4.

College Colors Day was established by the Collegiate Licensing Company five years ago to promote fan loyalty and enjoyment of back-to-school traditions across the country. This year College Colors Day takes place the day before Vanderbilt’s football season opener against Western Carolina at Vanderbilt Stadium.

All Vanderbilt faculty, students and staff are encouraged to wear black and gold on Sept. 4. In addition, the Vanderbilt Bookstore is helping promote this three-year-old campus tradition by offering fans the chance to trade in a non-Vanderbilt college T-shirt for a 25 percent discount on one Vanderbilt T-shirt. This offer is available at the bookstore through Sept. 5. All donated items will be given to charity.

Gov. Phil Bredesen has officially proclaimed Sept. 4, 2009, as College Colors Day in Tennessee. He noted that dozens of Tennessee colleges and universities provide educational opportunities to thousands of students each year. In addition, intercollegiate athletics in Tennessee provide scholarship opportunities to many young people. College Colors Day acknowledges the critical and fundamental importance of higher education to the state of Tennessee.
